Price College Welcomes Executives in the Fall
OU’s Price College of Business hosted several guest speakers this past fall as part of the Executive-in-Residence initiative and the Distinguished Speaker Series. Both of these programs allow business leaders to meet with faculty as well as interact with students and OU administrators. They are each uniquely designed to promote face-to face-interaction between global leaders, the Oklahoma business community and Price College students.
On Oct. 5 and 6, the first Executive-in-Residence, William “Bill” Engel, chairman of Consumer Orbit Inc., visited with numerous undergraduate and graduate classes focused on marketing and supply chain management. He shared with them lessons from his more than 30 years of experience in the media and marketing research industry. In addition to meeting with students in the classroom, he participated in an informal breakout session with MBA students as well as a meeting of the marketing and supply chain management student club, ConnXions.
Price College hosted its distinguished speaker of the semester, Steve Malcolm, on Oct. 20. The Distinguished Speaker Series presents top-level business executives from a broad range of backgrounds, industries and geographies. Malcolm, who was named chairman and CEO of Williams in 2002, gave a speech addressing the diverse workforce of the 21st century and why businesses invest so much in attracting and retaining them.
The second Executive-in-Residence, Mark Smith, met with undergraduate classes in early December. Smith, who serves as the CFO of Ultra Petroleum, drew from his personal experiences to share lessons involving strategic planning, corporate finance and business development in the energy industry. He also had the opportunity to attend an informal roundtable lunch with Energy Management students and JCPenney Leadership associates during his visit.
