PRICE COLLEGE HOSTS NOTEWORTHY SPEAKERS
The Price College of Business’ schedule of speakers during the fall semester included a wide spectrum of exciting and engaging business leaders. The Kanaly Lecture Series, the Distinguished Speaker Series and the Executive-in-Residence program all provided students, faculty and alumni numerous opportunities to interact with and learn from senior executives of diverse companies.

Dr. Steve Kerr, senior advisor at Goldman Sachs and senior advisory committee member to the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, spoke about “Leadership in a Crazy, Complex World” on Sept. 10 as part of the Kanaly Lecture Series. Previously a managing director and Goldman Sach’s chief learning officer, Kerr came to the company from General Electric,where for seven years he was vice president of corporate leadership |
development and chief learning officer. He has been on the business school faculties of the Ohio State University, the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California, where he was dean of the faculty and director of the Ph.D. program. His lecture was received by over 150 students, alumni and faculty and was followed by a brief question and answer session.
Archie Dunham (MBA 1966), former chairman of ConocoPhillips, spoke in an interview facilitated by Steve Long, director of Energy Management, on Oct. 23 as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. “Energy and the Geo-Political Environment” was the topic they discussed. Dunham began his lifelong career with Conoco Inc. as an associate engineer. In 1996, he was named president and CEO of the company. Following the merger of Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Co., Dunham served as chairman of ConocoPhillips from 2002 until his retirement in 2004. And this summer, Price College MBA students will have a unique opportunity to acquire international experience in London through a program made possible with a gift from Dunham and his wife, Linda. Chuck Doyle (BBA 1956), chairman of Texas First Banks, chairman and CEO of Texas Independent Bancshares Inc. and a member of the board of VISA Inc., served as an Executive-in-Residence at Price College on Oct. 30. He interacted with numerous students and faculty throughout the day in an MBA Strategic Management class and undergraduate Commercial Banking class, with student leaders in the JCPenney Leadership Program and during a Finance Student Association Seminar titled, “The Visa Story – an Insider’s Perspective on the Timing of Visa’s IPO.” During the one day visit, Doyle spoke to over 100 |
students and networked with an additional 30 while visiting with faculty in the areas of finance and management.
Gene Rainbolt (MBA 1957), chairman emeritus of BancFirst, visited Price College on Nov. 12 as an Executive-in-Residence. Rainbolt is involved in a multitude of business ventures and sits on the board for Sonic Corporation and InterGenetics, Inc. During his day at Price College, he met with students and faculty of Price College. He discussed corporate accountability and governance with a small group of 2nd year MBA students and met with the 1st year MBA students to address corporate issues and social entrepreneurship. Rainbolt also attended Professor Daniel Pulin’s Entrepreneurial Field Studies class to share the start-up story of BancFirst and the advantages of a running a family business.
