Program Description

The JCPenney Price College of Business Leadership Program is a selective program that prepares and empowers students to be leaders by providing them with: academic instruction on leadership, professional skill development, experience and internalization of the importance of service and philanthropy, and real world business and networking encouters. It offers students multiple learning experiences designed to bridge the gap between their academic and professional lives.

As part of the leadership program, students participate in group workshops and seminars and have close interaction with faculty and staff and with leaders and executives from government, corporate and non-profit organizations. The program also carries out integration activities among its members, which facilitate interaction and relationship building among peer associates.

A set of program activities has been designed to provide the growth opportunities to leadership students. While there are some main requirements, students generally select the opportunities in which they participate to complete their semester point requirements. One general requirement is that all JCPenney Leadership Associates take a business leadership course during their tenure in the program.

Leadership Associates may assist in the governance of the JCPenney Leadership Center through participation in the Student Advisory Board. This board serves the Leadership Program by providing an essential student voice in input on membership issues, future events, and other issues of governance.

Upon completion of the program students have:

  • Gained awareness and management capability of their personal strengths and weaknesses

  • Increased their knowledge and understanding of what a leader is as well as the responsibilities of leadership

  • Gained direct experience as a leader

  • Increased capacities and confidence in a variety of soft-skill areas

  • Made new friends and established relationships

  • Internalized the importance of philanthropy

Students who meet all of the requirements and are in good standing in the program at the time of graduation receive a JCPenney Leadership Center Certificate of Participation.
