VAHAP UYSAL

Vahap Uysal received his BS degree in mathematics from Bilkent University in Turkey (1996) and his Ph.D. from University of Texas at Austin (2005). His papers have been presented at the NBER Corporate Finance, AFA, WFA and FMA Meetings. He is a member of the American Finance Association, Western Finance Association and Financial Management Association; he is the recipient of a Dean's Fellowship and Bruton Fellowship from the University of Texas. His research primarily focuses on how value is created and distributed in Mergers and Acquisitions. Professor Uysal has recently published an article titled “Geography and Acquirer Returns†in the Journal of Financial Intermediation. In the article, he shows that geographical proximity plays an important role in facilitating valuable information to corporate managers when they acquire nearby firms. Despite progress in information technology and the Internet in recent years, this article suggests soft information that cannot be coded in financial documents still has a role to play in important corporate decisions.
