ACCOUNTING INTERNSHIPS

Internships are a strongly encouraged component of the B/MAcc curriculum with over ninety percent of students participating in the internship program. The program is designed to give students an opportunity to enhance their formal academic preparation with exposure to the accounting profession. After an internship, students have more insight into the profession and skills necessary to be successful. This allows them to benefit more from, and contribute more to, their subsequence courses.

Most internship opportunities are available during the spring semester, the so called busy season. Students typically intern for a portion of their fourth spring semester in the program. Taking courses in the second half of the same spring semester and/or during one or more summers allows students to complete the internship without a postponement in their expected graduation date. Summer internships are also possible.

Most internship positions are advertised through the Career Services Office. Interviewing for internship positions usually takes place during the spring of the preceding year (i.e., interviewing takes place in a student's third spring for a position in their fourth spring).

To qualify for three hours of credit toward the B/MAcc degree as an upper-division business elective, an internship must generally be for at least 320 contact hours. Further, the student must have at least 12 hours remaining in their curriculum after completing the internship. To receive credit, students must receive prior approval from the B/MAcc program coordinator and enroll in BAD 4700 before the internship commences. More information regarding credit for internships is available on the Price College internship web site and/or from Professor John Hobbs (325-2660 or JHobbs @ou.edu) . Students away from campus on an internship may apply to retain full-time student status through the Career Services Office.
